Sample Reading

Here's how it happens.

The reading is real, the name has been substituted.

The previous few months have been very challenging. I have been through a relationship which was not meant for me and am having tough time in my job. How can I overcome my barriers during this year in order for me to achieve my goals?
— AMANDA

I have prepared the following questions for your inquiry - Tarot works best when the questions are very simple and clear. I hope you are happy with these:

  1. What would be good for Amanda to understand about relationships?

  2. What would be good for Amanda to understand about her career?

  3. What barriers stand between her and achieving her goals?

  4. How can she overcome these barriers?

ABOVE: the spread in RESPONSE TO AMANDA'S QUESTION.

What would be good for Amanda to understand about relationships?
Card: Nine of Swords reversed

Upright, the Nine of Swords is about depression, nightmares, intense anxiety and fear. It's the sort of thing that make it hard to get to sleep at night or wakes you at 3:00AM feeling like your life is completely out of your control. It's mostly a psychological thing where the mind is creating all these fears and negative feelings, not actual real-world events.

The card also refers to a fear of the future - that certain terrible things are going to happen and that this is an ongoing source of worry and disempowerment.

In this reading though, this card is upside down (reversed) and that means that this context of anxiety and fear is active, but in a different way.

The card is saying that you are working yourself up to high levels of anxiety and worry, to the point that you are over complicating the situation. These concerns are not in balance with what the situation really is about or what is required of you to regain stability and control in your life.

You are also taking this type of thinking too far and this may do you harm; if you worry and are thinking about the worst too much, you run the risk of attracting these events and outcomes into your life.

Stop and examine what is happening in your life now. What was in the past is now actually in the past — you can now make new choices and go forward with a more positive future.
— ACE OF CUPS

You need to stop and examine what is happening in your life now. What was in the past is now actually in the past - you can now make new choices about how to think about it and how to go forward with a more positive future. You can give yourself your personal power back and start directing your thoughts towards positive and empowered goals again. The last card in this reading will give you more on how to do this.

What would be good for Amanda to understand about her career?
Card: Knight of Cups reversed

This is another reversed card - both of the life contexts you are apparently struggling with have some kind of blockage or key learning needed, to help you get past them and back onto a strong footing.

Upright the Knight of Cups is about romance, charm and imagination. This is someone who is in touch with her intuition and emotion and who uses these qualities in her quests to achieve her goals. Although this card is mostly about romance, its connection with career is also about creative and inspired endeavour. Heart-felt energy translated through positive effort into the achievement of meaningful goals.

In reversed position however, the card shows that there is something blocking this energy from being able to be fully expressed in your life. It could be that you are channelling too much emotion in this area, causing you to be over emotional at times, where more considered, level-headed thinking would be better. You may also be letting yourself jump to conclusions, due to your thoughts being energised by your emotional self.

Consider adopting a more thoughtful and factual approach in your view of your work and career. Seek to be a little more dispassionate when you view these areas in your life, and look to your challenges and decisions with a calmer and clearer mind.
— Ace of cups

Consider adopting a more thoughtful and factual approach in your view of your work and career. Look at the data and the specifics of what is going on in these areas and what this could mean for you. Seek to be a little more dispassionate when you view these areas in your life, and look to your challenges and decisions with a calmer and clearer mind.

This card can also mean that you were expecting something, a certain result in the context of your work. Maybe a new project or venture which was full of promise, but much to your disappointment, it didn't come through as expected or not in the way you had hoped. This disappointment is still lingering inside of you and in its own way, is blocking you from moving forward.

Again, the last card in this reading will be useful for you to understand in guiding coming decisions and actions.

What barriers stand between her and achieving her goals?
Card: The Empress

The Empress shows a deep connection with our femininity. Femininity translates in many ways – beauty, sensuality, fertility, creative expression, nurturing – and is necessary in creating balance in both men and women. This is about enjoying our sensuality and creativity, either through artistic pursuits or even getting back in touch with nature.

For work, this card is about seeking a creative outlet. This about drawing on your talents and personal expression.

I find it difficult to connect how the qualities described by this card can form a 'barrier', as asked by this question. I would therefore like to pose some options back to you, which you can consider and which you may be better able to connect with your situation.

One option is that you need more of these qualities in your life just now. Take some time out to simply indulge and enjoy your own body, to do things which make you feel good and relaxed. Maybe a massage, a spa or just about anything which would offer a relaxing and calming experience.

This should also include spending time in nature - a walk in the park or by the sea. Not just one, but several and allow these experiences to calm and sooth yourself. When I think about the first two cards - I could see that this sort of 'therapy' would be particularly beneficial to help soften the elements these cards speak to.

Another option is that there is a manager or someone who has a particularly nurturing or even has a mothering quality (maybe your mother?), who is in some way contributing to these blockages. Is there someone like this who has been influencing your decisions or causing you to see your experiences in a way that has not been helpful and which could be making it harder for you to move forward?

A further message is that you could consider changing your career to a more expressive, artistic and creative field. One that isn't full of administrative or routine activities, as these will bore you and sap you of energy.

I know there are a few options there and if we were sitting down talking through this reading, I could ask you about these ideas. So, for this reading, I hope they still offer you new insights or new ways to view your options for the future.

How can she overcome these barriers?
Card: Strength

This card is about inner strength - of one's spirit and application of personal energy. It is also about persistence and inner stamina. If you are feeling worn and stressed, this card is saying things are about to get much better.

There are other important qualities about this card that should be understood, which will support you to use a well-balanced approach in how you apply strength to your situation. One, as seen by the expression of the woman in this card, is being composed. That it's not a case of brute, thoughtless strength being applied to problems, but rather, a more well considered and dignified sense of will and persistence.

By using your inner power and persistence, you can start to build your understandings about what has happened, what your needs are and what options are open to create new paths to your goals.
— ace of cups

It's also a gentle strength - this is not about overpowering others, being demanding and particularly not about pushing and punishing yourself. The cards above are giving you advice about areas that you can now work on, to help you move and release these life events. By using your inner power and persistence, you can start to build your understandings about what has happened, what your needs are and what options are open to create new paths to your goals. There is every reason to feel optimistic as this is a very positive and empowering card for you.

This is about taking responsibility through rising to a higher level of consciousness. By being calmer and clearer about your life and your experiences, you will open yourself to learning and greater wisdom.
